Summer is a hard act to follow, but leave it to Mother Nature to usher in the longer shadows and golden glow to announce Act I of her most magical show. The trees change from their shades of green to a kaleidoscope of colorful brilliance. Leaves are dancing their final soiree as they gentle kiss the ground they land on to await their next number, blending with the damp soil to create an essential oil if you will, to send out to the audience. Each element has its role and together a beautiful season is ours to partake…and honor. A major part of our autumnal spiritual practice is the tradition of collecting and blessing Acorns which we keep during the dark months ahead for protection and a reminder of Natures cycle of growth and the strength of the mighty Oak. When possible we look to gather Acorns from a special or magic place.Many a year was spent at the Renaissance Faire gathering acorns in between the merriment.We would sneak off to a quiet spot where we each held the acorns and recited words of gratitude for the gifts of Nature and ask for blessings of growth and protection during the dark months ahead adding a sprinkle of glitter in closing.One year as we visited The Witchcraft Victims Memorial in Danvers Ma.we found a cluster of Acorns and picked them up .After a visit to the Salem Witch Musemn, we decided that would be THE place to do our little ritural there on the side of the Salem Witch Museum with permission from a docent we did our thing. In ancient times the Druids considered the oak tree and its fruit is sacred and held in high regard. The acorn represented/represents the wisdom of the oak, which was believed to be a pipeline to divine knowledge. Just as a mighty oak grows from a small acorn, it is a symbol of personal growth and the potential within each individual to achieve greatness. Oak trees were also seen as gateways to the Otherworld, and the realm of spirits and ancestors. Acorns, as the fruit of the oak, were believed to be the key to connect the physical world with the spiritual realm.: The shell of the acorn represents resilience, while inside symbolizes the strength gained through adversity.In Norse mythology the significance of acorns connected nature, the divine, and human life. They were believed to be symbols of strength, protection, and fertility. Acorns continue to inspire and fascinate people, reminding us of the enduring power of ancient beliefs and traditions. Having our acorn tradition is also keeping the Old Ways alive and that is such a witchy thing to do. Blessed Be
